Is There Anything Cody Johnson Can’t Do?

In Cody Johnson’s recent Facebook live stream, he and his fiddle player, Jody Bartula, performed many originals, old and new, but also gave us a few covers that were nothing short of pretty damn amazing. Among them was ‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’, ‘Either Way’ and ‘You Have The Right To Remain Silent.’

‘Help Me Make It Through The Night’ was originally written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson in 1970. It has since been covered by the likes of Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Bryan Adams, Sammi Smith, Elvis Presley, and as of late, Tyler Childers. Out of all the songs he played during his Facebook live session, this might be my personal favorite.

‘Either Way’ is a well known song written by Chris Stapleton, Tim James and Kendell Marvel. It was the first single off Stapleton's 2017 album From A Room: Volume 1. Stapleton is in a league of his own when it comes to vocal range and ability but that didn’t keep Cody from damn near stomping his Birkenstock’s through his stool and blowing us all away with that raw emotion and energy we’ve all come so accustomed to hearing from him.

‘You Have The Right To Remain Silent’ is a song written by Brenda and Cal Sweat. It was recorded by the group Perfect Stranger in February of 1995 and was the groups only Top 40 hit, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart. Cody’s cover of this song was unbelievably smooth, something I couldn’t watch just once. Practically anything the man touches these days turns to gold. Keep ‘em comin. No, really. We’re begging...
